West Michigan woman killed after a motorcycle and deer collision

A 43-year-old woman from West Michigan was killed after a motorcycle crash occurred when her motorcycle struck a deer while traveling in Ionia.

The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. when the motorcycle the woman and her husband were traveling on got into the path of a deer. The vehicle struck the deer and the impact caused the woman to be thrown from the motorcycle and into the roadway.

She was then struck by a van that was unable to stop in time. The husband was injured and transported to the hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Michigan school bus involved in morning accident

A Michigan school bus has been involved in an accident that occurred while he was trying to swerve to avoid another vehicle, but instead crashed into a ditch.

According to Michigan officials, the accident occurred as the school bus was heading to pick up students that were heading to school in the Rockford School District.

The bus driver tried to swerve around a vehicle that ran a stop sign and entered into his path. The bus then went into a ditch, rolled onto its side and hit a tree. The bus was totaled as a result of the accident, but no serious injuries were reported.

Listeria-contaminated cantaloupes may be deadliest outbreak in recent history

The Center of Disease Control has said that the recent listeria outbreak linked to cantaloupes may be the deadliest in history. Thirteen people have been killed as a result and 72 people have been sickened.

The reports have come from 18 states across the country and it has now surpassed the deadly salmonella outbreak from peanuts that occurred in 2009. Additional deaths are currently being researched and officials have said that the death toll could increase to 16.

A dangerous factor associated with the outbreak is that their is incubation period between the time the cantaloupe was eaten and when symptoms appear. A few of the states that have reported illnesses include California, New Mexico, Colorado, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Montana, and Maryland.

Offcials investigate industrial accident in Detroit

Officials investigate an industrial accident in Detroit at Highland Park Water Department that left one dead.

The 32-year-old man was found with burns covering nearly 95 percent of his body and he was barely able to breathe. He was found in a lot at the Water Department in Detroit and was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead the next day.

Police were investigating the accident that they thought was an industrial accident, but some evidence shows that the man may have been intentionally lit on fire. The incident remains under investigation at this time.

Woman killed after motorcycle accident

A 41-year-old woman was killed after a motorcycle accident occurred in Isabella County on Saturday.

According to police officials, the accident occurred on U.S. 127 when a man driving his motorcycle lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons.

His wife was the passenger on the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was transported to a hospital in Grand Rapids to be treated. Rain may have been a factor in the crash.

Hospital involved in wrongful death lawsuit

A hospital received $323,000 as a part of a civil wrongful death case after a 93-year-old man  froze to death because a device was placed on his electricity meter when he had unpaid bills.

Bay City Medical Center received $323,000 because the man left his money to the hospital in his will. The family filed the wrongful death suit against Bay City and Bay City Electric Light & Power. An autopsy showed that the man died of hypothermia. Family members also received about $6,000 each as a result of the case.

According to a new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, most doctors will be sued for medical malpractice during some point in their career.

Some officials think that the threat of being sued is what leads doctors to practice what is known at “defensive medicine.”  This means that extra tests are ordered to make sure that the diagnosis given is the correct one.

Woman taken to hospital after hit-and-run pedestrian accident

A 39-year-old woman was injured after a hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred in Blackman Township.

According to the Michigan State Police, the accident occurred Tuesday at 11 p.m. when a dark-colored SUV hit the woman while she walked down the roadway.

The woman was then transported to Allegiance Health to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The incident is currently under investigation at this time.

Two children were injured in school bus accident

Two children were injured after a school bus accident occurred in Benton Harbor.

According to police, the brakes on one of the buses went out while it was traveling on Michigan 139 around 10 a.m. This caused the bus to rear-end the bus in front of it.

Each bus has 50 children inside of it because the children were traveling to Kalamazoo on a charter bus trip. Two children, ages, 11 and 12, were injured in the accident, but their injuries were said to be non-life threatening. The accident is currently under investigation at this time.

Three injured in Dalton Township accident

Three people were injured after a car accident in Dalton Township occurred on Monday morning.

According to police, the accident occurred near Michigan’s Adventure Amusement Park when a man driving a Chevrolet Impala turned left in front of a pickup truck causing the two vehicles to collide.

The intersection did have a left green arrow, but it is unknown at this time who had the green light. There were two people in the Impala and one in the truck at the time of the collision and all three sustained injuries. Authorities are currently looking for witnesses at this time.
