Two injured in a Michigan construction accident

In Webster Township, Michigan two construction workers were injured at a work site.

The accident happened on a Saturday afternoon when a construction worker was dispensing concrete near a shed. The shed was part of the work site as well. While the man was pouring the concrete, the shed fell trapping the worker under it. Another construction worker tried to help him out of the situation and was also injured.

Both of the construction workers sustained injuries but they were considered non-life threatening. Firefighters arrived on the scene and freed the man trapped under the shed. They were transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Grand Rapids man injured in construction accident

A 46-year-old man was killed in a construction accident in Grands Rapids on Monday.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the man was working on wiring a cable when the accident occurred. Co-workers then heard a scream and they tried to perform CPR on the man when they found him.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is currently investigating the accident at this time to find out the details that lead to the man’s death.

Two workers involved in morning construction accident

A construction accident in Ann Arbor in currently under investigation after two men were injured at the site of a underground parking structure next to the Ann Arbor District Library.

The men were working on a metal rebar, which is used to reinforce concrete, when it began to fall on the workers. Both men were taken to the University of Michigan Hospital, but were listed in stable condition.

One man was lifted by a crane after the accident and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Both men have now been released from hospital.

Michigan company issued four citations after accident

New information has been released about a fatal construction accident that occurred in Michigan in the summer after a trench collapsed.

The accident occurred on September 29 when a 58-year-old man was working for an excavating company and the eight foot trench he was working in collapsed on top of him. He was buried up to his neck and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Inspectors from Michigan’s Occupational Safety and Health Division have  issued four serious citations against C. Johnson and Son Excavating. The company was cited for not properly supporting the trench, not having inspections done on the site, and because the worker was not wearing the appropriate injury prevention gear.

Man killed in scaffolding collapse at Michigan airport

A scaffolding collapse at at Michigan airport left one man dead. The accident occurred right before the new year at Pellston Regional Airport.

A 61-year-old man was killed in the accident when he and several other workers were trapped underneath the collapsed scaffolding wall and concrete blocks.

The workers were constructing a concrete wall when the scaffolding went down. Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are going to conduct a full investigation into the accident.

Michigan OSHA hands out safety award to construction company

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration has handed out their first construction industry Star Award for safety and health excellence to Walbridge.

The company was commended for its safety practices that were done on the Couzens Hall renovation project at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. The program recognizes specialized work that has been done by contractors throughout Michigan.

The Star Award is the highest level safety and health achievement. In order to receive the award, a company must be in business for three years, show a commitment to safety, and have a successful partnering with MIOSHA. The injury and illness rates of their employees must also be below the national average.

Man struck and killed by car in construction zone

A man was killed in a construction accident after a car crashed into a construction zone on Michigan Ave. and struck the man.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. when the man was speaking to workers and explaining where they should pave the road when a Chevy came through the construction zone and struck a construction truck which then struck the man. The man was then pinned underneath the car.

Construction workers on the scene began to try and free him from underneath the car, but the man was pronounced dead when they released him. The driver of the car is now being questioned to see if she was under the influence of any substances.

Charges filed in death of worker on University campus

Criminal charges have been filed against a masonry company after the death of a worker in a construction accident on the University of Michigan campus.

The company, Davenport Masonry, has been criminally charged with violating the Occupational Safety and Health Act  in Michigan.

The worker was killed in February 2008 after stepping backward on an unguarded scaffold and falling 40 feet to the ground. The man was killed on impact. The company has been charged for allegedly not having a hazard-free workplace, which resulted in the death of the man.

Highway worker killed after being hit by motorist

A highway worker from Michigan City was struck by a motorist and injured in a construction accident on Interstate 94 near Burns Harbor.

The man was working to fill cracks on the highway in a construction zone that was clearly marked with signs, message boards, and arrow boards. Around 3 a.m. a motorist did a U-turn in the construction zone and hit the worker. The worker was carried on the car for 35 feet before being thrown from the car and the driver then fled the scene. The worker was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Construction accidents can be very dangerous to all involved. Motorists should remain focused while driving through roadway construction zones in order to ensure the safety of themselves and the workers. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.
