Highway worker killed after being hit by motorist

Posted on May 14th, 2010 No Comments

A highway worker from Michigan City was struck by a motorist and injured in a construction accident on Interstate 94 near Burns Harbor.

The man was working to fill cracks on the highway in a construction zone that was clearly marked with signs, message boards, and arrow boards. Around 3 a.m. a motorist did a U-turn in the construction zone and hit the worker. The worker was carried on the car for 35 feet before being thrown from the car and the driver then fled the scene. The worker was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Construction accidents can be very dangerous to all involved. Motorists should remain focused while driving through roadway construction zones in order to ensure the safety of themselves and the workers. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.
