Semi-truck rollover causes I-96 closure

A semi-truck rollover accident on I-96 caused the road to be closed as the truck blocked the lanes of the highway.

According to Michigan State Patrol, the accident occurred just before 3 p.m. when the truck was exited the roadway and lost control. The preliminary investigation stated that the steel parts that the truck was carrying may have shifted caused the truck to tip over.

A portion of the steel parts came out of the roof of the trailers in the accident and were a significant part of the cleanup process. No serious injuries have been reported in the accident.

Teen injured in bike and truck accident

A truck accident last week left a 15-year-boy injured in Genoa Township.

According to officials, the accident occurred as the 15-year-old was traveling eastbound on Grand River near Tahoe Boulevard when he was struck by a truck that was driven by a 41-year-old man.

The teenager was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital to be treated for severe injuries. Police continue to investigate the accident, but said that speed and alcohol do not seem to be factors at this time.

Detroit being sued over train and truck accident

A lawsuit has been filed in a federal court by Amtrak against Detroit after a train and truck crash occurred.

The lawsuit stems from an accident that  occurred when a train struck and destroyed a fire truck that was parked on the tracks and worth nearly $600,000. Amtrak is stating the the crash has cost them nearly $75,000 in damages.

The lawsuit states that the firefighters failed to exercise the appropriate care for the situation. There were also two minor injuries that were reported in the accident.

Man killed in accident with Faygo truck

A man has been killed in a truck accident while riding as passenger in a car when it collided with a Faygo truck.

The accident occurred on the east side of the city on Gratiot, just outside of the Faygo plant.

The passenger vehicle slammed into the back of the truck. Preliminary  investigations reveal that speed and alcohol may have been a factors in the crash. Charges are sought by prosecutors in the case.

Man charged after multiple-vehicle accident

The driver of a semi-truck has been charged after an accident on Highway 75.

The 44-year-old man has been charged with failure to stop with in a sure distance after he collided with the back of a vehicle that was stopped at a construction site.

This collision caused a six-car chain reaction. Eight people were sent to the hospital as result of the accident, but the extent of their injuries is unknown at this point.

Detroit policewoman struck by postal truck

Monday afternoon around 4:30 PM, a Detroit policewoman was struck by a postal service truck while driving her motorcycle.  Witnesses say they saw 43-year old Sonya Justice’s bike flip and that she was unresponsive after the accident.

Two witnesses quickly called 911 but were unable to get through to a dispatcher.  After a couple failed attempts, one witness, Blair Mahone, rushed over to Justice and used her radio to reach Detroit Police.  ”I noticed that the officer was unresponsive, but she was breathing, so I grabbed her radio and I said, ‘Officer down’,” stated Mahone.

An ambulance quickly arrived on the scene and transported Justice to Detroit Receiving Hospital where she was in critical condition.

Tanker explosion on I-75 in Detroit

Two 18-wheelers crashed on I-75 causing one of them to explode and collapse an overpass on the roadway.

One of the tankers was carrying gallons of fuel when it collided with another truck. After the truck exploded, the heat cause a half mile of the bridge to collapse. It is unknown if there were any people traveling on the two-lane overpass when it collapsed.

Authorities have said that there were multiple other vehicles involved in the accident and three people suffered non-life threatening injuries. Officials are still investigating to find the cause of the accident and it is unknown if either drivers suffered injuries.
