A new law called the “super drunk” driver law will go into effect statewide in Michigan on October 31.
The legal limit for driving with alcohol in your system is 0.08, but this new law deals with people who are pulled over and have a blood alcohol level of over 0.17. If convicted, these people will face much more severe consequences. These include, the suspension of the person’s driving privileges for at least 45 days.
After that, the driver must pay to get an ignition interlock system installed in their car which requires them to blow into it while driving to make sure that they have not consumed alcohol before driving. The person must spend one year in an alcohol rehabilitation program, and faces longer jail time and larger fines.
