Debate in Michigan over pit bulls
In Michigan, there is a debate over whether pit bulls are companions or killers. Many shelters will not take pit bulls in after they are left on the streets because they are feel that they are too dangerous.
Pit bull lovers say that they are the most loyal and intelligent dogs when they are raised correctly. Many dogs are left when their owners are ill-prepared to raise them, so the dogs end up roaming the streets. The Michigan Humane Society will capture dogs and after three attempts to find the owner, they wait seven days and if no response, the dog is put down.
This fact is disturbing to pit bull fans, but officials from the Humane Society said that many pit bulls are associated with dog fighting and you can not put them in a family’s home if the dog has a history of violence.
