Defective traffic light contributes to fatal motorcycle accident
A motorcyclist was killed after his motorcycle collided with a mini-van on the west side of Detroit the night of May 15.
According to scene investigators, a defective traffic light that flashed red and green at the same time caused the accident at the intersection of West Warren Ave. and Beechwood Ave. The malfunctioning light caused both the driver of the mini-van and the motorcyclist to think they each had the right of way.
People in the neighborhood reported that the traffic light had been working improperly for some time.
When investigating who was responsible for the light, police said the traffic lights were contracted out to another company by the Department of Public Lighting.
