Detroit officer dies in motorcycle accident

A Detroit police sergeant died in a motorcycle accident  last week after his motorcycle went off the road and crashed into a sign. He was not wearing his helmet at the time of the accident. No other vehicles were involved.

The cause of the accident that killed the 42 year-old officer is not known. The Marine City police were looking for him half an hour before he crashed when someone turned in his gun, which he had supposedly dropped in the street in Marine City. Toxicity tests are planned to determine if alcohol was a factor, but results could take weeks to process.

His funeral was held last Friday.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the late sergeant.
